Family Woodland Lakehouse

Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire

Situated in Moultonborough, NH, on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, this lakehouse accomplishes a lot for our clients, who wanted to merge old and new in a space that comfortably accommodates the extended family and just a few people. Originally built in the 1970s, the homeowners rebuilt their multi-generational home to suit their growing family with a space where everyone could visit.

Lindsay joined the project from the beginning, maintaining much of the home’s sentimental value. With 12,000 square feet, it can fit up to 40 people—and often does for reunions and summer gatherings! Yet it’s also comfortable and cozy with only three to four people, which is most of the time.

Our interior design team honored the homeowners’ wish to tastefully and thoughtfully incorporate many nostalgic elements alongside modern amenities. We kept many of the family’s existing furnishings and quirky features they loved, like the hidden door to a secret room where the younger kids love to play. Meanwhile, family members can relax in the sauna or hot tub, hang out in the four-season sunroom, and show their competitive streaks in the game room. There are even multiple laundry rooms for the ultimate convenience.

Meticulous planning on everything from room layouts to furniture selection was vital to creating a lasting, practical home. Spaces were designed for how they would be used, both by the individual and the whole family. From the sauna to the kitchen and pantry to every sitting area, the attention to detail and functionality ensure longevity.

By mixing various metal and wood materials, we achieved a light, bright space that embraces both the contemporary and rustic—or, as we like to call it, stylish utilitarian! We specified all materials and furnishings (i.e., colors, materials, plumbing, tile, flooring, new beams, exterior colors, patio stones, and appliances) and fully integrated with the builder, architect, and landscaper to ensure everything feels cohesive from one space to the next, inside and out. Now, this timeless home looks like a natural part of its surroundings and is primed for many generations and memories to come!
