Scarborough, ME
If there’s one phrase to describe this home, it’s “Big design in small doses!” The homeowner, a retiree who relocated from Portland, ME, to Scarborough, wanted to maintain her chic, colorful aesthetic while moving to the suburbs. As an art collector with a fun yet practical style, she’s been heavily involved in local community art programs throughout Maine and wanted her home to capture this with bold colors and daring choices.

Since her new house has a unique layout, one of our first interior design goals was to ensure every piece of furniture and decor fit and had a home. As a result, you know where to look, but certain items give a WOW factor. The client’s office and craft room, which also serves as a guest room, provides efficient storage so it feels organized. We also restored a retro vintage console in the den, creating more storage while adhering to the client’s creative vibe.
In fact, bridging existing and antique pieces with new pieces was key. For example, we painted the client’s dining room table blue to modernize it to fit her new space. Lindsay and the team love taking meaningful, quality pieces and restoring them when possible!
Every room has a unique feel, yet the home has a cohesive style. Pops of color and patterns are offset with muted and neutral tones from the living room to the sanctuary of the adorable balcony. By marrying the old and new, we were able to evoke an eclectic yet tasteful look that encapsulates the homeowner’s personality.
